Walt Disney World Gateways Getting Pixie Dust

The Walt Disney World gateways are getting Pixie dusted to match the new paint on Cinderella’s Castle. The words are changing from “Where Dreams Come True” to “The Most Magical Place On Earth.” And I have…….feelings about it.

We know this is in preparation for their 5oth anniversary. They want everything to be sparkly and shiny. They’re going to be lovely, I’m sure.

Here’s where my feelings come in. And not just on this paint job, there are other things that fall into this category. Disney has been laying off their Cast Members left and right. A seriously huge number of them. These aren’t just numbers. They are people. People with rent. People who have families to feed. People who depended on their jobs. So every time I see Disney make announcements about new paint, and things like that, I can’t help but feel like, “If they have money for paint, why can’t they keep the Cast Members?” I don’t presume to know everything about the inner workings of Disney and their budgets, but COME ON. Do they not know how this looks?

I go to the parks as often as I can. I truly feel for all the CMs who are no longer there, and the ones who are working so hard because they’re not at full staff. And this really goes for the Universal and SeaWorld parks as well. Theme park workers are being crushed right now.

And guess what? The greater Orlando area is tourism. So when you lose your theme park job, along with thousands and thousands of others, there aren’t a bunch of other jobs for you to apply for. The industry is currently in the toilet. So yeah, I get a bit miffed when I see Disney throwing around the Pixie dust after they just had a ton of their cast members walk the plank.

And also, if they’re going to do this, they need to update the versions of Mickey and Minnie on the signs. They’re so ’90’s.
