Walt Disney World and two unions, the Service Trades Council Union and the Actors Equity Association, have reached an agreement on mandatory vaccinations for Cast Members. These unions represent its performers, hotel workers, bus drivers, merchandise, attractions and food and beverage workers. STCU is Disney’s largest union representing more than 30,000 Cast Members. Disney has said they are continuing negotiations with other unions.
“In the Agreement, Disney has made the decision to require all STCU represented employees to show proof of vaccination by October 22, 2021,” the union said.
Cast Members with medical conditions or strongly held religious beliefs will be able to apply for an accommodation through a “negotiated process” that “ensures prompt processing of requests for accommodation, weekly meetings between the Union and Company to address concerns as they arise, an explanation if any accommodation is denied, and access to the grievance procedure should there be a dispute on the accommodation request,” the union said.
Under the terms of the agreement, accommodations will be promptly processed. Weekly meetings will be held between the union and Disney to discuss any concerns as they arise.
Union Cast Members who do not comply with the vaccine requirement or do not request a legitimate accommodation will be separated from the company with a “yes” rehire status.
Disney will be holding on-site vaccine events. Cast Members can check the HUB for more information. They are providing the Pfizer vaccine.
“We appreciate the communication and collaboration with the union representatives as we put the safety of our Cast Members at the forefront of our health and safety protocols — the vaccine is the best way to protect each other,” a Walt Disney World spokesperson said.
I know people have all kinds of feelings about getting vaccinated. Some for it, some against. But I’ve been watching my friends lose loved ones, and I’ve experienced loss. In those experiences, none of them were vaccinated. The FDA has now approved a vaccine and I think it’s an excellent idea to get it if you haven’t already. Especially if you’re going to be around other people. And please people, wear a mask where required without throwing a temper tantrum.
There is no need to bring hate to the comments here. We’re all just trying to keep people from dying a preventable death. You can spew your internet troll hate elsewhere. Be kind to each other.
