Update: ICON Park Death

At a news conference this afternoon it was announced that the Free Fall ride had manual adjustments made to sensors of two of the seats after the permit and inspection were completed. These manual adjustments allowed the seat to open to double what it should have. It is not yet known who made the adjustments. This is apparently what caused the death of 14 year old Tyre Sampson on March 24, 2022.

The report says the seats were manually adjusted after the inspection, so the sensor showed the harness was safely locked with a 7-inch gap at the bottom, instead of the normal 3-inches.

Free Fall is closed indefinitely. The investigation will continue. Lawmakers are evaluating current rules and laws in an attempt to strengthen them to prevent future incidents and tragedies.
