Prop Shop at Universal Studios to Close Permanently

We can kiss another cool Universal Studios thing goodbye. This time it’s the Williams of Hollywood Prop Shop. It’s closing at the end of June.

This sucks and was probably preventable. The store started out with many Universal Orlando Resort props for sale in it’s Hollywood area location. As time went on, you saw fewer and fewer props and many more third party vendor items.

If you’ve been a regular at the Prop Shop, you’d have noticed that most of the items were coming from The Coop. Not much fun when you’re in a prop shop inside Universal Studios looking for park and movie props. They were also sold at quite a mark-up.

Most of the Universal props were sold to a different third party vendor who put them up for sale in his booth at the Lakeland Antique Mall. This vendor was usually given dibs on the stuff, so it never even made it into the Prop Shop.

Had Universal kept their own props in the shop, and cut way the hell back on the third party crap, I think the Prop Shop would have been profitable for them and it may have been able to live the life it should have. It was a fantastic idea and I had high hopes for it when it opened.

I really loved going in to see what they had and report back to you all. I will miss this store quite a bit.

Get in there to see if you can score any Universal props before it closes. Maybe let Universal guest services know if you’re going to miss it.
