It was announced today that Orlando Free Fall will be torn down due to the death of Tyre Sampson. The 14 year old was killed in March 2022 during spring break when he fell from the ride. It had been adjusted to allow riders larger than the weight limit to fit in the seat.
Officials said the timeline for taking down the Free Fall will be announced at a later date.
“We are devastated by Tyre’s death. We have listened to the wishes of Tyre’s family and the community, and have made the decision to take down the FreeFall,” said Ritchie Armstrong, with Orlando Slingshot. “In addition, Orlando Slingshot will honor Tyre and his legacy in the classroom and on the football field by creating a scholarship in his name.”
