Disney’s Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser to Make Final Voyage

Yesterday Disney announced that their Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser will make its final voyage on September 28, 2023. The Starcruiser is an immersive 2-night hotel that brought you into the world of Star Wars in ways never before. I can say for certain that many of us saw this coming. It’s just a little sooner than expected.

The problem with this experience is that it is mad expensive. Disney was completely catering to the wealthy. These brief voyages are many thousands of dollars. The hotel has only 100 rooms, so lowering the price of a voyage doesn’t seem like they’d be able to continue operating without a loss.

Disney released a statement on the closure.

The final voyage for Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser will take place Sept. 28-30, 2023.

Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser is one of our most creative projects ever and has been praised by our Guests and recognized for setting a new bar for innovation and immersive entertainment. This premium experience gave us the opportunity to try new things on a smaller scale of 100 rooms, and we will take what we’ve learned to create future experiences that can reach more of our Guests and fans.

We will be contacting Guests booked for voyages departing on or after Sept. 30 to discuss their options and modify their plans. To prioritize these Guests, we are pausing new bookings until May 26.

We are so proud of all of the Cast Members and Imagineers who brought Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser to life and look forward to delivering an excellent experience for Guests during the remaining voyages over the coming months.

You can see what Disney had revealed about the experience on May 4, 2021 here.

There hasn’t been any sort of indication of what they will do with the space once the hotel is closed. I’d love to see it repurposed or have the entire space updated. I think they should leave the entrance to the hotel that’s in Batuu in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Once you walk through, there should be a craft you can board to travel at lightspeed to another planet. Of course this would be a facade of sorts and it would just feel like you’re in motion, much like existing attractions. Once you step off the craft, you’ll be on Hoth or Tatooine, or some other planet from the franchise. Maybe give us a new ride along with it. I think it’s a good way to expand the land.

Were you one of the few who was able to take a voyage? Were you saving up and now you’ll never have the chance? How are you feeling about this closure?
