ShopDisney Re-Re-Brands as DisneyStore

And just like that, what is old is new again. ShopDisney.com has re-re-branded themselves as DisneyStore.com again. You may have noticed if you type in shopdisney.com in your search bar that it’s now coming up disneystore.com. They also put out a subtle announcement with the graphic above.

Some of you that are a little older or with a good memory will recall it being the Disney Store or Disney Store Online. And there was even a paper catalog that you could have sent to you monthly! I happened to work for the Disney Catalog Outlet eons ago. That’s where the things from the catalog/online store went when there was a surplus or they weren’t selling and it was time to move onto the new.

Like many of you, I used to order a lot of stuff. When the boxes would arrive they’d have that nifty tissue paper in them, which I still have several sheets of. Packrat, hoarder, or Disney memory keeper? I’ll let you decide. I immediately recognized that paper as the background for their announcement. By the way, who else still has some of this?

Where do I have my Disney tissue paper? Why, in my DisneyStore.com bag, of course! I’m sure this bag came from an actual Disney Store, either in a mall or the outlet store I mentioned earlier. But you’ll notice that it’s from 2007 and it’s a plug for the website. This bag has housed my gift wrapping tissue for all these years. Why change a good thing?

With this change to a familiar name, I’m kind of hoping they’ll bring back the brick and mortar stores to malls. But not the updated stores we’re seeing now with less Disney and more ease of swapping out merchandise like the World of Disney store in Disney Springs. I mean the really great old stores with lots of character, pun intended. Give me the characters in the store, the televisions with the Disney Channel on them, and silly carpets. PLEASE bring them back.

What do you think about this change? Do you remember the good ol’ days of the Disney Store?
