The Tale of Earl the Squirrel Book

I spent the afternoon and evening at Universal Orlando to check out the Holiday Tribute Store, the lights, and of course, the Holiday Parade. There was a new item out that I had my heart set on, a book called The Tale of Earl the Squirrel.

If you’ve been in Universal Studios for the past several years for the holidays, you probably already know Earl. If not, he is a squirrel that lives in the Christmas tree that pops out to say hello. Everyone loves him, he’s obviously a superstar, thus a line of merchandise for him was born. It’s grown over the years just like Earl’s popularity. He even has a lady friend now, Pearl. Coincidentally, my Grandpa’s name was Earl. In the 70’s when everyone had a CB in their vehicle, his handle was Earl the Pearl. I and the other grandkids called him Earl the Pearl all the time. I think that’s maybe why Earl is so very extra special to me.

I went to the Holiday Tribute Store to pick up my copy of the book and the creators were there to sign them. Such a pleasure!

It was nice to chat for a moment, mostly about my Jurassic Park Christmas shirt. I got it 10-12 years ago when I was still a Team Member. I’ve visited Jurassic Park in Islands of Adventure every year since looking for another JP Christmas shirt. Turns out that there is something on the way for the holiday season of 2025! My heart couldn’t be happier!

The four gentlemen couldn’t have been nicer and I greatly appreciated every one of them for signing my copy of The Tale of Earl the Squirrel. I hope there are more books on the way.

Here are a few pages from the book. It’s a lovely origin story for Earl and how he ended up in the Universal Christmas tree.

If you’re at Universal Orlando during any season, you can find Earl easter eggs within. He pops up in displays. It’s always great to spot him!

There aren’t any more book signing dates at this time, but I know there may be another. The first printing was 1,000 books and they have sold very well. The majority 700-750 have already gone home with Earl fans. I heard someone in the queue saying that they were picking up a few for stocking stuffers. That’s a great idea. I’m all for giving books as gifts.

Have you picked up your copy of The Tale of Earl the Squirrel yet?
