The New Disney Park Pass System! – How to Reserve a Park Day

Disney is introducing the new Park Pass System to manage attendance during the reopening. All guests with a ticket or pass will be required to make a reservation to gain entry. We’ve been hearing about this, but now have details.

You’ll need a My Disney Experience account and a valid ticket or pass that’s linked to your MDE account. If you have a Disney Resort reservation, that will need to be linked as well.

Once you’ve set up your account and linked your tickets/pass, you’ll have access to a calendar of available dates to reserve your theme park visit. If you have a multi-day ticket, you will be required to reserve each day. Families and friends can link their tickets so they can try to get reservation dates together.

Park reservations are limited in number and subject to availability. I have a feeling it’s going to be just as stressful as people trying to get their Fast Passes the minute their window opens. The availability can change until the reservation is finalized. So if you don’t act fast, you may lose it.

You’ll only be able to reserve one park per day. Park hopping will not be an option during this time due to park attendance limitations. If you already have tickets with the Park Hopper or Park Hopper Plus Option, they will offer modifications or cancellations.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Link your admission to your MDE account.
  2. Create your party. You’ll be prompted to choose from your Friends and Family list. If you don’t see someone, click “Add Guest” to include them. You may need more than one Disney Park Reservation for your party depending on your admission type. It says to make sure your party consists of passholders or ticket holders.
  3. Select a date and park. Here you will select the date, park, and time to visit.
  4. Review and confirm your plans. Before confirming, you’ll need to agree to the Terms & Conditions, which include a Covid-19 liability waiver. Once confirmed, your reservation will be in My Plans in the MDE app and online. Click “Make Another Reservation” to add additional days.

The part about creating your party leaves me with questions. What if passholders have ticket friends they want to go with? Does that mean two sets of reservations have to try to be made for the same days and times, and if not, oh well? I guess we’ll find out.

Booking dates will be available soon to Guests. Please take note of the different dates and tickets. Park reservations will be available through September 26, 2021 based on your Resort stay, ticket eligibility or ticket eligibility window.

  • June 22, 2020– Disney Resort and select hotel guests with valid theme park admission
  • June 26, 2020– Annual Passholders without a resort stay
  • June 28, 2020– Existing Ticket Holders

As an Annual Passholder with no blackout dates, the availability of reservations through September 26, 2021 concerns me. My AP is quite expensive and I paid for it because I wanted to have unlimited access to the parks. I completely understand the situation we currently find ourselves in, but having said that, I have questions. My access will now be limited to whether or not I can get on MDE and make reservations fast enough before they’re gone. How many passholder spots will there be in any given day in any given park? Will they all be released at the same time, or in phases? Will Disney give me a discount on my pass? It recently went up $150 and I’m definitely not cool with that. (See the instagram memes with my rage.) They’ve already stated that AP benefits may not be available currently. What do my fellow APs think?

I look forward to getting back in the parks, but I’m not looking forward to the anxiety I’m sure I may have when trying to make reservations. I really hope all goes well.
